Working Wonders Workshop

Today, Year 10 students attended an interactive presentation by 'Working Wonders' on the theme of Raising Aspirations.

Looking at the importance of qualifications, and exploring the skills and behaviours needed to be resilient in the world of employment.

The programme aims to:

- Explore dealing with challenges and plans that don’t work out in an unpredictable job market

- Reinforce the importance of qualifications to help future-proof your career in a changing job market

- Emphasise the importance of all exam subjects, not just the lessons that will most obviously feed into a chosen career path

- Raise aspirations

- Promote University as being a positive option for all students, regardless of career choice or route.

#Cove School 11 May

Year 11 GCSE exams are under way! starting with English Lit this morning, which went very well. Students kept their focus and worked hard. We wish them all the very best.

Our amazing Year 10 students engaging with and learning from real world scientists about sustainable energy sources. Many futuristic designs were created by our enthusiastic students. Thank you to the 'National Grid' and the 'Smallpeice Trust' for sponsoring this event.

As our Year 11 students approach the end of their time with us, we are offering the opportunity to purchase a Leavers’ Hoodie and a Yearbook to help celebrate their time at Cove School. #Cove School 28 April

From today students can wear summer uniform! This means that students can wear their light blue school polo shirts (proudly representing their correct house) instead of their white shirts and ties if they wish. A blazer must be worn over the top and not a jumper or hoodie. However, they can remove their blazer when it is particularly warm and put them in their bags. The only two options are: - Normal uniform - white shirt, tie and blazer. (Please note - jumpers are not a replacement for blazers!). - Blue polo shirt and blazer. (Year 11 who have the black polo shirts can obviously continue to wear these). All students must continue to wear black shoes, black trousers, or school skirt. If a student owns and wishes to wear school shorts from Brenda’s this is allowed.

#Cove School 24 April

This week we took 2 groups of year 9 students to visit 'Audley Woods Hotel' and 'Sherfield Oaks Golf Club' in Basingstoke. These trips gave students first hand experience of the workplace focusing on the Hospitality and Sport workplace sectors. Students took part in activities relating to various job roles at both locations and also had in depth behind the scenes tours of the hotel and club grounds. Students were able to speak to employees to gain an insight into the day to day running of a 4 star hotel and a Golf Club. Thank you to James at Audley Woods and Luke (Cove School alumni) at Sherfield Oaks for generously hosting Cove School!

LOST PROPERTY: If you recognise any of the items below, or on our website https://www.coveschool.uk/our-community/lost-property, please contact us on 01252 542397 or get your child to visit Health and Welfare or Reception, during their break or lunchtime, to retrieve their item. Items will be kept until the end of term before being recycled or donated to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice. PLEASE ENSURE ITEMS ARE NAMED OR LABELLED (especially clothing) SO THEY CAN BE RETURNED EASILY. Any unnamed uniform, will be held for a short period of time before being donated to our Behaviour Hut.

#Cove School 13 April

Hampshire County Council have informed us that St John's Road will have limited access and parking today and tomorrow between 9am - 3pm. The road is due to be re-surfaced and will have loose stones after the work has been completed. If the work becomes delayed due to weather conditions, then it may be Wednesday/Thursday when the work is finished. Please can you try to park away from the school Entry and Exit gates while the work is in progress. Thank you in advance for your help with the above.

In the Deaf and Hearing Loss Hub, we have been celebrating Sign Language Week! We have been working with our Deaf Instructor to learn new signs and creating banners and posters to celebrate.

This week, Year 8s have been hands on with the African drumming workshops! We had Emmanuel from Inspireworks teaching them some rhythms on the Djembe.

The Cove Art department is proud to introduce our Golden Easel, now taking pride of place in Reception! Oliver R (Year 8) has been awarded the Golden Easel for his outstanding artwork. His pepper fineliner drawing demonstrates confident and expressive mark-making, showing excellent control and attention to detail. This was followed by beautifully smooth, carefully layered watercolour work, revealing a strong understanding of tone, depth, and technique. Oliver’s creativity, patience, and dedication to refining his skills truly stood out, making his work a pleasure to view. A well-deserved achievement. Well done, Oliver!

As part of our whole school World Poetry Day Celebrations, year 7 students were treated to a fantastic interactive poetry presentation by Adisa the Verbaliser. Adisa gave a very lively, fun and inspirational presentation to all students followed by poetry workshops where students had the opportunity to create their own pieces of poetry. The event was a wonderful celebration of poetry that inspired students to express themselves creatively and appreciate the art of spoken word.

Last night, our Shakespeare's School students took to the stage at The Haymarket Theatre in Basingstoke and delivered a wonderful performance of The Tempest. They were a real credit to our school and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Thank you to all who took part and supported. We're very much looking forward to CSSF 2027!

Thank you to all of our visitors who gave insightful presentations providing insights into their own careers and lots of information on various study pathways and the wider world of work, helping to inspire and show students what's possible for their future after Cove School.
