Uniform and Equipment

The Cove School uniform is more than just a dress code for students. It represents our community, our ethos and has been put in place to create a pride in learning and a sense of belonging.

A high standard of personal appearance is expected of all Cove students. Anyone arriving at school in non-uniform clothing may expect to be sent home to change or be put in isolation. Students are expected to wear FULL School Uniform to and from School.

In choosing Cove School, parents agree to support and help us maintain the following high standards of uniform and equipment throughout their child’s time at the school.

Coats are for extra warmth and to provide rain protection over blazers. They should be plain in colour (no leather, denim, knitwear, fur or tracksuit tops). Hoodies are never permitted to be worn to, in or from school. It is impossible to have rules for situation that might arise with regard to hair. However, we expect hair to be traditionally styled as we do not allow ‘extremes’ with hairstyles and the Headteacher (with the involvement of the Governing body if necessary) will be the arbiter of what constitutes an extreme. As a guide no extreme crops, shaved patterns or extreme colours are permitted (no shorter than grade 3).

Mobile phones are not permitted at Cove School. Whilst we do not ban students from bringing mobile phones to use travelling to and from school, we take no responsibility for them. All mobile phones must be powered off and placed in the student’s school bag before they enter through the electronic gates at the front of school. Whilst in school student’s mobile phones must be out of sight at all times. If students are seen with their phone or if their phone is heard, it will be confiscated. In the first instance this will be for 1 day but will increase with each incident (please refer to our mobile phone policy for further detail) overnight until the end of the following day in the first instance. This also extends to portable speakers.

Students who are missing or wearing incorrect uniform are expected to borrow uniform.  If there is a medical reason why the student is not in correct uniform (evidence required) or if we are unable to lend uniform to the student, we will issue them with a blue slip.
If the student refuses to correct or borrow uniform, the behaviour policy will be used and they risk being isolated for the day or sent home.
