Girls into STEM Trip - FLUOR
Year 10 girls recently had an opportunity to attend the Girls in STEM event hosted by Fluor. The purpose of the visit was to encourage and inspire young girls to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by breaking barriers and challenging stereotypes often associated with these fields.
During the trip, the students participated in an engaging engineering activity ( tower building) designed to develop problem-solving, teamwork, communication and critical-thinking skills. The students were supported by Fluor engineers.
The students also attended mini workshops where they interacted with female role models from different companies including Gulfstream, DCX, BAE systems and Farnborough 6th form college. The company representatives shared valuable information about the wide range of career opportunities available in STEM-related industries and show cased some of their projects.
The students also had a great networking time with female ambassadors from different working environments. This was a great learning experience as it allowed the students to ask questions and clear any misconceptions they had regarding different STEM career opportunities.
The experience exposed the students to real-world applications of science and engineering and gave them insight into the important role women can play in these sectors. The girls left feeling motivated, inspired and more confident about considering STEM careers in the future.
We would like to thank Fluor and all participating organisations for hosting such an informative and empowering programme for our students.
