Discovery Day at FCoT

As part of our school careers programme, we took a group of year 10 students to Aldershot Construction College (FCOT) to take part in the colleges Discovery Day.

Students joined workshops and carried out hands on tasks in; Bricklaying, Plumbing, Carpentry and Electrical Installation.

Students produced some excellent work, the college tutors were very impressed with how well our students engaged with each all of the tasks.

#Cove School 16 July

On Monday 13th July, we celebrated our annual Cultural Diversity Day, with students invited to come to school wearing their national cultural dress, continuing a much-loved tradition from previous years. Throughout tutor time, students took part in a range of engaging activities, including a Cultural Diversity Treasure Hunt, which encouraged them to learn more about the many cultures represented within our school community. At lunchtime, students enjoyed a vibrant cultural showcase featuring music and dance performances by students from Years 7 to 10. The event was expertly presented by our Year 10 students, Jemila, Jude and Hannah. We were also delighted to welcome the Mayor of Rushmoor, Councillor Peter Cullum, alongside Mara Makunura, representing the Pride of Rushmoor Community Awards. The day was a wonderful celebration of the rich cultural diversity within our school, and it was fantastic to see so many students taking part with such enthusiasm and pride. Thank you to everyone who supported and contributed to making the event such a success. It is always a highlight of the school calendar and a celebration that our students look forward to each year.

#Cove School 14 July

Last week we took a group of Year 8 students to Goodwood for The Festival of Speed. We also visited The Goodwood Education Centre, where students explored a wide range of exciting STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) subjects. Throughout the day students discovered the engineering and innovation behind motorsport and explored cutting-edge technology bringing STEM subject to life. Thank you to Goodwood for sponsoring this trip.

#Cove School 10 July

✨ A huge congratulations to our incredible cast and crew of Mary Poppins JR., who took to the Cove School stage earlier this week! ✨ Our talented students wowed audiences across three fantastic performances, including a special performance for pupils from Cove Junior School and two packed evening shows for parents, staff, friends and members of the community. Producing a show of this scale takes months of dedication, commitment and teamwork, so we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to every member of staff, student, parent and volunteer who helped bring this magical production to life. We were especially touched to receive this wonderful feedback from the Principal of YEM Theatre School, who came to watch some of her students perform: "One of the things I enjoyed most was seeing how much the cast were enjoying themselves. Their enthusiasm, confidence and teamwork shone through from beginning to end, and that is something that can't be created overnight." We couldn't agree more. Every performer and every member of the backstage team should be incredibly proud of what they achieved. The talent, hard work and passion on display were truly inspiring, and they absolutely captivated everyone who came to watch. Thank you to everyone who supported our production. And finally, the biggest congratulations go to our amazing cast and crew - you were simply practically perfect in every way! ☂️🎭✨

#Cove School 08 July

As part of our Cultural Diversity celebrations, we are delighted to offer students a selection of dishes from around the world in our canteen, the Streateries, prepared by our catering partner, Aspens. Please take a look at the exciting international menus available from Monday 13th July to Friday 17th July, alongside other grab and go foods also available. We hope everyone enjoys the opportunity to sample a variety of delicious flavours from different cultures.

#Cove School 07 July

We will be celebrating Cultural Diversity Day on Monday 13th July. We would like to celebrate the cultural diversity of our school community by allowing students to come to school wearing their national cultural dress, if they have one, as we did last year. For students who do not own cultural dress, we will be allowing them to attend school in clothing that represents the colours of their national flag. Students choosing this option should wear clothing that includes at least two colours from their national flag. This is something we will be trialing this year to help ensure that all students at Cove School feel included in the event. We hope this additional option will complement, rather than replace, the wonderful cultural outfits that many students proudly wear. In addition, there will be a range of activities and events for students to take part in throughout the day, including: · A Cultural Talent Showcase, which will take place in the main hall during lunchtime. Students are invited to share a dance, song, poem, or musical performance from their culture. · Dishes from around the world, provided by the canteen staff at break and lunchtime. · A cultural and language treasure hunt. This is shaping up to be a wonderful day, celebrating the rich cultural diversity within our school community.

#Cove School 03 July

Thrive Conference Surrey University 2nd July: Yesterday we took a group of year 8 students to Surrey University to take part in their Annual Thrive Creative Conference. Students spent time within the Art department where they learnt about the many varied career pathways within the Creative Arts industry. Students then took part in a series of creative 'taster' lessons within Graphics, Fine Art, Illustration and Textiles. Students produced some truly excellent art work including designing and printing a tote bag which they were able to keep. Thank you to HEON and The University of Surrey for hosting this event.

In RS our Year 8 students continued to plan and prepare work for their Ummah Project Presentation which will take place in lessons in a couple of weeks time. For this the students are researching into the idea of Ummah in Islam, which means community, and they are looking at different ways in which Muslims show their are part of the Ummah. Students created some lovely pieces of work. Well done year 8!

#Cove School 29 June

In RS lessons on the school closure days Cove School Year 7 students were asked to design a leaflet about the problems in our environment, beliefs about stewardship, and why we should take care of the world. The project was called 'Give our world a chance' and students produced some really thoughtful work. Well done, Year 7!

#Cove School 25 June

Emergency School Closure due to extreme heat: Closing a school is always a difficult decision. The picture locally and across Hampshire is variable. Nearly all schools are partially closed from between 11am to 1pm depending on the school. Some have completely closed, mainly those in the south of Hampshire. Due to the nature of the buildings at Cove, it has become increasingly challenging to find areas that are relatively cool. The humidity in the rooms is of a significant concern regarding children’s and staff well-being and health. We have, like all local secondary schools, seen a significant decline in attendance over the past two days with nearly a third of the school staying at home. Also, many of the children who do come in are struggling to concentrate and remain focused, as well as staff melting in front of the class. It is hard to argue that as we have closed the school today, why, when conditions are the same, we would open tomorrow. The inside of the school today, with all the windows and doors being closed is unbearable. Therefore, I am reluctantly making the decision to close the school tomorrow (Friday) as well. Staff have placed a lot of work online. Children must access this work via Satchel:One and complete it. Staff will monitor this throughout the day. Please be disciplined about completing this work as you would do if in school, taking regular breaks and then continue with the work set by your teachers. School will re-open fully on Monday 29th June, I expect to see you all then in either normal unform or summer uniform. No PE kit, although tailored shorts from Brenda’s are allowed for all year groups. Year 11: Regarding the Prom tomorrow evening this will proceed as normal, we are all looking forward to it! A huge congratulations to 10M2, who attended the highest number of study sessions in the lead-up to the Year 10 mock exams! Their commitment, dedication and fantastic work ethic have truly paid off. To recognise their outstanding effort, we celebrated with a special reward breakfast this morning. Students enjoyed some well-earned treats and the opportunity to relax and socialise with friends. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and positive attitude – well done, 10M2! 🎉👏

#Cove School 08 June

At the end of last week, we held our Year 10 Celebration Assembly. It was a lovely occasion, with a fantastic atmosphere as students came together to celebrate each other's achievements. Rewards were presented to many students in recognition of their hard work, dedication, and success throughout the year. We were also delighted to announce our new Prefects, and we look forward to seeing them take on their leadership roles in the coming year. Thank you to all Year 10 students for making the event such a positive and memorable celebration.

'Forces Friday' will be starting from tomorrow, Friday 5th June, and will be running every Week B Friday, during morning registration, held in the Library for our Service children.
