Our Year 7 students enjoyed a fantastic team-building experience at Runways End Outdoor Activity Centre on Monday 12th October (Side 1 tutor groups) and Tuesday 13th October (Side 2 tutor groups). Students took part in a range of exciting, instructor-led activities, including team challenges, orienteering, outdoor climbing and archery or caving. These experiences provided a brilliant opportunity for students to step outside their comfort zones, build new friendships and develop the essential character skills that help them thrive at secondary school. Throughout the activities, students were encouraged to demonstrate resilience, communication, teamwork and empathy, supporting one another and growing in confidence along the way. It was wonderful to see so many students embracing new challenges, encouraging their peers and putting our Cove values of Care, Character and Academic Excellence into action. A huge well done to Year 7 for making the most of this opportunity, and a big thank you to our staff for helping make the experience such a success!

Year 7 Choir Competition! Yesterday, we held our annual Year 7 Choir Competition, and what a huge success it was! Every Year 7 class has been learning a different song in their music lessons this term, and yesterday they took to the stage to perform in front of the whole of Year 7 and our esteemed panel of judges. Mr Futcher and Miss Crocker were incredibly proud of all our Year 7 students. It takes real confidence and courage to stand on stage and sing in front of 150 people, and every class did themselves proud! The students sang loudly, enthusiastically and tunefully, delivering some truly fantastic performances. They were also fantastic audience members, showing respect, support and encouragement for all the other classes throughout the competition. It was wonderful to see them celebrating one another’s performances and cheering each other on! The standard was so high that our judges faced an incredibly difficult decision and ultimately awarded joint first place! Joint first place: 7E2 – with their beautiful and moving rendition of Only You, which gave Mrs Taylor goosebumps! 7O2 – with a fun-filled, enthusiastic performance of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious that had everyone smiling! Second place: 7E1 – with their energetic performance of Price Tag. Third place: 7O1 – with a fantastic two-part rendition of the challenging Do-Re-Mi. A huge well done to every student who took part. We were so impressed by the confidence, teamwork and enthusiasm shown by all four classes. You should all be incredibly proud of yourselves! Finally, a big thank you to our wonderful judges, Mr Bibby, Mrs Taylor and Miss Leedale, for taking on the very difficult task of choosing our winners! What a brilliant celebration of music, teamwork and Year 7 talent!

Post-16 Education Information Morning Yesterday, all of our Year 11 students took part in our Post-16 Education Information Morning, where they had the opportunity to hear from representatives from a range of local colleges and education providers. Students were able to meet the visiting representatives, learn more about the different opportunities available to them, and ask questions about their options for further study after Cove School. This is an important time for our Year 11 students as they begin to consider their next steps and make decisions about their future. We strongly encourage students to attend as many college open events as possible, giving them the chance to explore different courses, facilities and learning environments, and to gather the information they need to make informed choices as they begin the college application process. Thank you to all of the Post-16 education representatives who joined us for our event! Overthinking can make a small worry feel huge. It often shows up at bedtime, before school, after a tricky conversation, or when your child is trying to make the “right” choice. The mind goes round and round, looking for certainty that simply is not there. A helpful pause can be as simple as asking: “Do I know this for sure?” “Will this still matter next week?” “Is there one small thing I can do now?” If there is no action to take, it is okay to write the worry down and come back to it later. A walk, a stretch, a few slow breaths, or putting the phone aside can help bring the body out of alarm too. Children do not need perfect answers from us. They need calm reminders that a thought is not always a fact, and that they do not have to solve everything tonight. Visit www.anxietyhelpbox.com for more resources to help with anxiety.
