Summer Uniform

From after May half term a pale blue polo shirt with school logo and house name may be worn to replace a white shirt and tie. A cost effective alternative would be to purchase short sleeve white shirts that students can wear all year round with their tie.

Coats

Coats are for extra warmth and to provide rain protection over blazers. They should be plain in colour (no leather, denim, knitwear, fur or tracksuit tops). Hoodies are never permitted to be worn to, in or from school. Once in the school building all coats, scarves, gloves, hats etc. may not be worn in the building. Peaked caps are not permitted to be worn to school.

Bags

Bags should be large enough to hold all school equipment, including an A4 file. They should be waterproof and fastenable (preferably a plain, dark colour). Heavy fashion branding is not permitted including large handbags.

Shoes

The following shoes are not permitted as part of our school uniform -  canvas shoes, boots including ankle boots, trainers (or trainer style shoe), sports shoes, plimsolls, shoes with any visible branding or logos and any fabric that is not leather. Black polishable trainers are not acceptable.

Training shoes are only to be worn for PE and not as part of the normal school dress. Training shoes are not to be worn to and from school.

Hairstyles

It is impossible to have rules for situation that might arise with regard to hair. However, we expect hair to be traditionally styled as we do not allow ‘extremes’ with hairstyles and the Headteacher (with the involvement of the Governing body if necessary) will be the arbiter of what constitutes an extreme. As a guide no extreme crops, shaved patterns or extreme colours are permitted (no shorter than grade 3). Head coverings (Hijabs) are permitted, these must be plain black only.

Jewellery / Piercings

One plain stud (in silver or gold) may be worn in each ear lobe only. No other visible body piercings are allowed e.g. nose studs, eyebrow rings, and tongue studs. Other forms of body piercing such as ear stretchers are not permitted. Students are permitted to wear a watch only on their wrist. Any jewellery/piercing that are not permitted will be confiscated and kept securely in school for parental collection only.

All jewellery must be removed for PE on Health and Safety grounds. The school cannot be responsible for lost jewellery.

Make-up

Minimal, makeup may be worn if it is discreet and natural looking. Heavy make-up including eye shadow, eye liner and lipstick and contouring are not permitted.

Nail polish and False Eyelashes are not permitted

Students who are seen to be wearing these will need to remove them immediately.

Acrylic/gel nails are not permitted and will need to be removed

In the first instance it will be requested for the parent/carer to enforce with their child by the start of the next school day.

Basic Equipment

It is important that students are organised and have the basic equipment required for their lessons. As a minimum expectation, we require all students to have the following items for school.

2 HB Pencils 1 Pencil Sharpener 1 Rubber
30cm Ruler Pencil Case Scientific Calculator e.g. Casio fx-83GT PLUS

Mobile Phones:

Mobile phones are not permitted at Cove School. Whilst we do not ban students from bringing mobile phones to use travelling to and from school, we take no responsibility for them. All mobile phones must be powered off and placed in the student’s school bag before they enter through the electronic gates at the front of school. Whilst in school student’s mobile phones must be out of sight at all times. If students are seen with their phone or if their phone is heard, it will be confiscated. In the first instance this will be for 1 day but will increase with each incident (please refer to our mobile phone policy for further detail) overnight until the end of the following day in the first instance. This also extends to portable speakers.

Students who are missing or wearing incorrect uniform are expected to borrow uniform.  If there is a medical reason why the student is not in correct uniform (evidence required) or if we are unable to lend uniform to the student, we will issue them with a blue slip.

If the student refuses to correct or borrow uniform, the behaviour policy will be used and they risk being isolated for the day or sent home.
