School Librarian: Mrs J. Powell - Welcome to the Learning Resource Centre
On joining Cove School, students automatically become a member of the School Library.
Students are issued with their an individual ‘PIN’ to give them access to their account.
Students may borrow up to 3 books at a time for a period of 3 weeks; loans may be renewed if necessary.
The library currently holds a catalogue of over 7000 resources including:
Fiction, non-fiction, large print books, Quick-Reads, graphic novels, Dyslexic Friendly print titles and reference books.
The library resources are updated on a regular basis to include new book titles and topical interest resources.
FirstNews weekly newspaper and popular interest magazines are available to read within the library.
Ebooks: Available to all staff and students, accessed via Quick-links on the Cove School website.
Student Librarians: Students are able to volunteer for break and lunchtime library duties and can work to become a student librarian on completing a short library induction course.
Home Study Club: A dedicated Home Study Club, which is open to all year groups and is fully staffed, is held in the LRC after school; Monday-Thursday 3.05pm-4pm.
The LRC has a computer room within the library. Computers may be used by students during break and lunchtime and also as part of the Home Study Club.
Post 16 Option Information: A wide selection of college prospectuses, Post 16 Option and Further Education information is available for students to collect from the library.
Events and Activities
The School Library holds a series of exciting and educational events throughout the school year.
World Book Day: Annually in March, we celebrate WBD with activities, competitions, quizzes and events held in the LRC, library and across the school.
The Hampshire Book Award: This is a county event run by Hampshire school library service which we look forward to taking part in every year.
HBA will be open to year 8 students in the Spring term 2021.
We have hosted very successful visits from a wide range of authors including;
Helen Dennis, visited Cove School in March 2020 and gave a series of lively and insightful presentations to students in KS3.

Bali Rai, whose many books include;
Stay A Little Longer, (Un)arranged Marriage, Old Dog New Tricks, The Harder They Fall
Nicky Singer, author of many popular children and YA books including;
Island, Feather Boy, The Flask, Knight Crew
Andy Briggs, author of books including:
The School Library is a well-used and popular area of the school.
Pupils are encouraged to use the library and its resources throughout the school day.
We aim to promote reading for pleasure by offering a friendly, helpful learning environment to all students.
